As Halloween was approaching this year, I came to the realization that I have never really carved a pumpkin before. I watched my father carve a few when I was little, but I never actually carved one myself. So I decided to give it a shot. Coming up wit my theme was relatively easy, I was inspired by one of my favorite bands and decided to carve the "Sublime Sun" into my pumpkin. Well, lets just say I had no idea how much work it is! This pumpkin took me about 2 days to complete. I used wood-carving tools to carve it, which honestly was much easier to use than the standard pumpkin carving kits you get from craft stores.
In order to make some areas "glow" without carving it completely out, I thinned the inside of the pumpkin first and then carved thin strips off of the front, so the candle lit up the areas I wanted to glow, like the ring around the face, his cheeks, outline of the mushroom, etc. I used neon paint to paint in some details after I was finished carving and let it dry!
I know It probably could have came out much better, but for my first time carving a pumpkin, I am pretty satisfied with it!
